Each piece in our Wearable Heritage collection is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, featuring vintage Yemeni silver.
In the mid-1800’s, skilled silversmiths lived in the region that is now the Republic of Yemen. These artisans used old silver coins and artifacts to fashion uniquely intricate jewelry, showcasing exquisite filigree patterns and granulated beading. Today, however, this silver art form is all but extinct as local jewelry preferences have shifted from silver to gold and the region is embroiled in intense political struggles. What remains are silver relics from vintage wedding jewelry—headdresses, necklaces, belts, and earrings.
Adornment Avenue hopes to keep the characteristic beauty of this dying art alive for generations. Our Wearable Heritage collection uses repurposed vintage Yemeni wedding jewelry. Each masterpiece in the collection has a story and timeless style that can be passed down from generation to generation.
Customization. The availability of Yemeni vintage silver is diminishing, however, occasionally Adornment Avenue offers limited editions of selected pieces. In addition, we can redesign most any Wearable Heritage item. If you see a vintage Yemeni silver piece that you love, but do not love the overall design (such as the color of the stones or the length of a necklace), please contact us. We can create a custom design that suits your preferences and highlights the beauty of the Yemeni silver.
